I heard of a woman who threw one of her shoes at a black bear in camp and got ready to hit it again with the other shoe. The bear ran up to her and took away the shoe. Another woman thought a dog was sniffing her tent, so she hit it in the nose. Turns out, it was a bear who was rather reasonable in its response: one paw swipe through the tent and only a scratch to her forehead.
