Finding a Practical Knife?

I need a knife that can be opened and closed with one hand while wearing thick gloves (I would prefer it to not be a fixed blade because I cannot carry a sheath). I currently use a gerber army issue folding knife but opening and closing it is a pain in the a**. The knife needs a blade that can handle cutting parachord and other practical items (fabric. plastic. wood etc). I have seen otf knives and spring assisted but I don't exactly know the laws with them nor do I necessarily want to deal with the legalities of using one (I live in Nebraska). The knife does not have to be pretty just practical. Thanks
